In today’s fragmented world, where daily life is often overshadowed by dark events, I felt there is a need for something that people across the globe can share. This led me to the idea of the “Salt Ship,” a vessel that produces and delivers salt worldwide.

This ship not only transports sun-dried salt made in the regenerated traditional salt fields of the Setouchi region, but also continues salt production onboard. There are significant advantages to carrying out salt production at sea. First, the strong winds on the open water can be harnessed to efficiently evaporate seawater. Second, by traveling across the globe, the ship can collect seawater from cleaner regions with higher salinity, improving both quality and yield.

In this way, the large-scale “Salt Ship” could become a Peace Boat–like presence that connects people around the world, while also addressing the inefficiencies traditionally associated with solar salt production.
